The book “Social and Emotional Skills Development in Early Childhood Education and Care in Europe” is one of three intellectual outputs of EU-SELF Erasmus+ project.
This book includes the presentation of each partner of the project, also a description of each national educational system and context. It also includes an overview of good practices in the six partner countries (namely by presenting national case studies), the extent of the implementation of personal and social key competence measures, a glossary of key terms in social and emotional skills, and lastly a proposal of observation criteria for social and emotional skills promotion and learning in preschool settings. We believe that this information can be of great use for educational agents across Europe, namely those working with kindergarten level students, to efficiently implement social and emotional skills development measures in their own educational settings
We consider very important part of our research not only to review the state of intervention in social and emotional skills, in the different countries and the good practices, but as well the analysis of the educational context in the partner countries, the level of implementation of the personal and social key competence, kindergartens’ case studies, among other useful information.
This book, as an intellectual output of the EU SELF project, offers a link between scientific knowledge and practice, which include joint work of higher education institutions and ECEC providers. Within the book the reader can find materials that describe real social and emotional skills promotion practices, aligned with the specific educational context. All this information is framed and exemplified in the description of case studies from each partner country.
